As residents of 363 Bond Street Apartments, we have the unique opportunity to contribute to the beautification and environmental health of our neighborhood. One impactful way to do this is by participating in various Gowanus tree planting projects.

These efforts not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of our streets but also play a crucial role in improving air quality, reducing urban heat, and managing stormwater runoff.

The Importance of Street Trees in Gowanus

Street trees are vital components of urban infrastructure. They help reduce street flooding, improve air quality, lower temperatures during summer months, and enhance water quality by mitigating stormwater impacts on local waterways.

The Gowanus Tree Network, initiated by the Gowanus Canal Conservancy, empowers neighbors to collaborate in building a healthy urban forest. Tree Ambassadors enroll in Citizen Pruner training, organize tree stewardship activities, and participate in initiatives like the Greenest Block in Brooklyn contest.

How You Can Make a Difference

Participating in tree care events is a rewarding way to connect with neighbors and contribute to the community. Here’s how you can get involved:

  • Volunteer Your Time: Join local tree care events to directly impact the health and beauty of our neighborhood trees.
  • Become a Tree Ambassador: Consider enrolling in the Gowanus Tree Network to receive training and lead stewardship activities on your block.
  • Support Local Nurseries: Visit the Lowlands Nursery to learn about native plants and how they support urban ecology.

Join the Upcoming Street Tree Care Event

A fantastic opportunity to get involved is the upcoming Street Tree Care event organized by the Gowanus Canal Conservancy. Scheduled for Saturday, April 19, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the event will take place at the Lowlands Nursery, located at 25 9th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11215.

Volunteers will engage in activities such as cleaning, caring for, and mulching street trees, all essential tasks for maintaining a healthy urban forest. All necessary supplies will be provided, and participants are encouraged to dress comfortably and bring a water bottle to stay hydrated.

Participate in Gowanus Tree Planting Projects This Spring

By engaging in these initiatives, we can collectively enhance the green canopy of Gowanus, fostering a more vibrant and sustainable environment for all.

Join other 363 Bond Street residents to help nurture our neighborhood’s trees and ensure a healthier, greener future for Gowanus.
