New Yorkers and fireworks enthusiasts around the world look forward to the annual Macy’s Fireworks Spectacular. For more than four decades, this grand spectacle has graced the city’s skyline every July and seems to get bigger and better every year. However, depending on the year, the barges where the fireworks are launched from can be set at different locations along the East River. That means picking the perfect spot can be a moving target. But with so many options, you’ll be sure to enjoy the show from wherever you decide to park your crew.
Here are some of the best viewing spots for fireworks, whether near or far from our Gowanus rentals.
- FDR Drive. This is a no-brainer because it hugs the East River. Macy’s has named the Midtown portion of the FDR as a prime location for viewing, but there are several options along the thoroughfare. If you want to fight crowds, post up at FDR and 42nd which has been named THE best viewing spot for NYC fireworks. You can also set up at 34th, 23rd, or Houston. All are great spots to watch!
- The River. What better, and more summer-centric, place to watch this year’s fireworks that on the East River? If you, or literally ANY member of your crew, have access to some type of watercraft – get out on it and enjoy this spectacular view. No boats available? You can board a yacht with other fireworks lovers and set sail… for a fee. You can even experience this year’s fireworks show from the deck of a tall ship! There are several options available from providers around the city.
