When you hear mention of Coney Island, you probably conjure up images of summertime favorites:
So why are we talking about a beach community in the thick of winter? Is Coney Island open in the winter?
We’re talking about this iconic community because it’s a great place to have fun any time of the year!
While many of the beach’s attractions are off-limits for winter, Coney Island still offers plenty of fun!
Here are three of our favorite winter beach activities at Coney Island!
Coney Island Winter Activity #1: Enjoy A Scenic Stroll
Besides all of its famous attractions, Coney Island also offers plenty of gorgeous views – especially from its renowned boardwalk.
Even during a cold winter’s day, you can enjoy the natural beauty of the beach by taking a stroll on the boardwalk.
Enjoy the brisk fresh air. Marvel at the waves as they crash along the shoreline. Bask in the glow of a bright winter sun.
Just be sure to bundle up and take along a travel mug filled with your favorite hot beverage to stay toasty.
Coney Island Winter Activity #2: Visit Some Fishy Friends
After you take a scenic stroll, head indoors to warm up and explore the wonders of the deep blue sea at the New York Aquarium.
From colorful and sleek sharks to aquatic mammals and wildlife, you’ll get an up close glimpse at the beauty and majesty of the ocean.
During the winter months, the aquarium operates with limited daily hours. This provides plenty of opportunities to enjoy its exhibits when it’s too cold for outdoor fun.
Best of all, there’s less of a crowd so you can enjoy a more serene and relaxing visit.
Coney Island Winter Activity #3: Skate Your Day Away
If you’re looking for a seasonal activity that’s fun and provides a bit of exercise, we have the perfect idea!
Lace up your skates and hit the Abe Stark Rink.
Located at the Coney Island Boardwalk on 19th Street, the ice rink is primarily used for hockey games and practices.
However, it’s open for public ice skating on the weekends from October until March.
In addition to its normal weekend hours, the ice rink is also open on select holidays like MLK Day and other special weekday dates for public ice skating activities.
The perfect setting for a date, gathering with friends, or spending time with the family, Abe Stark Rink is pure wintertime fun!
Be sure to check the website for any updates to its business hours before planning your visit.
