On Labor Day, the West Indian Day Parade gathers welcomes around two million people to Crown Heights to celebrate history and culture. On September 3, Eastern Parkway will be overtaken by parade participants and attendees as the street fills with the sounds of drums, whistles, reggae and calypso music. And, don’t forget the costumes! Carnival is known for colorful, involved costumes involving feathers, rhinestones, beads, skin, and much more.

Have you always wanted to try glassblowing? You can! Just a mile from our new apartments in Gowanus lies UrbanGlass – the largest glass studio on the East Coast. According to its website, “UrbanGlass fosters experimentation and advances the use and critical understanding of glass as a creative medium.” The studio, which was established in 1977 provides a space for more than 380 artists to come together to create glass works. Artists rent a space at the studio, which is closed to the public, and have access to 17,000 square feet of state-of-the-art studios which are filled with natural light and the best equipment that exists for the medium. While the studio is closed to the public, you can hop on a free tour of it every Saturday which leaves from Agnes Varis Art Center.

Hosted at the Brooklyn Expo Center, just about 30 minutes north of 363 Bond Street, this seven-year-old event welcomes a range of artists who exhibit and sell their works.
