This year, the 36th Annual Mermaid Parade will take to the streets on Coney Island. This unique event attracts nearly half a million every year including participants and spectators to ring in the summer season. The parade carries on the spirit of early 20th century Mardi Gras parades that made a home on Coney Island. With costumes, floats, and more themed around everything aquatic – especially mermaids – there’s no better place to honor sea life than on Coney Island.
